"Oh my God," I said. "It happened--we've killed over a million Iraqis." My boyfriend gave me a skeptical look. "Are you sure?" he asked. "That's a huge number--how do we know that?"

I agree that it's shocking--ridiculous. But it appears true--old news, even. The estimate that 1 million Iraqis had likely died as a result of the US invasion of March 2003 received independent confirmation in September 2007.
